Dewey M. Valdovinos

Dewey Max Valdovinos, age 89 of Bagley, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born near Bloomington, WI, on March 12, 1923, the son of Hilario and Fairy (Bohringer) Valdovinos. He was the second of nine children.

He married Norma Jones on July 7, 1951, at Epworth, IA. Dewey was a veteran of World War II and had been stationed in the South Pacific during the war. He operated the Bagley Sawmill for many years and later in life shared his talent for woodworking by making bluebird houses. Dewey was well known in the Bagley/Bloomington area and his kind gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Norma, Bagley; two daughters, Kathy (Dick) Atkins and Marjie (Tom) Bennett, all of Bagley; two sons, Douglas of Nevada and Daryl (Tina Butler) of Soldiers Grove; three grandchildren: Jesse (Jaye Maxfield) Bennett, Christopher Kivi, and Tanya Valdovinos; four great-grandchildren: Autumn and Leah, Michaela and Tatiana; three sisters: Louise (Bernard) Riggs, Jackson, MI; Mary (Pete) Maiker, Huntsville, AL; and Nancy (Ron) VanNatta, Kalispell, MT; two brothers: Jack (Gail) Valdovinos, City Island, NY, and Dennis (Alietta) Valdovinos, Delta, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carmen and Quentin and a sister, Birdie Hampton.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Friends called on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dewey M. Valdovinos memorial fund has been established.

Charles E. Vance

Charles E. Vance, age 55, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. He was born on May 29, 1953, at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, the son of Charles and Alice (Atkinson) Vance. Charles graduated from Gays Mills High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. On July 30, 1988, Charles was united in marriage to Robin M. Eastlick at the Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, rural Cornelia. He was a lifetime member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster. Chuck dearly loved spending time with his children and family. He also loved to ride his Harley.

Survivors include his wife, Robin, Lancaster; his children: Ronnie Vance, California; Kari Vance, Kalamazoo, MI; Grant Vance, Lancaster; granddaughter, Hailey Vance, California; brothers and sisters: Gary (Patsy) Vance, Viola; Linda (Robert) Poyner, Santee, CA; Cheryle (Joe) Hesseling, Madison; Valerie (Gary) Hall, Logan, OH; James F. Vance (friend Laurie), Wausau; Jeffrey Vance, Janesville; and Brenda (Rick) Pavlovich, Winnebago, IL; step-father, Lavern Hill, Platteville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a nephew, Brandon Vance.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Catherine Carlson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, rural Cornelia. Friends called on Friday, April 3, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. Gertrude E. Vander Drink

Gertrude E. Vander Drink, age 99, of Potosi, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on February 9, 1915, in Rockton, IL, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Miller) Dingman. Gertrude graduated from Rockton High School. She was united in marriage to Harry Vander Drink. After their marriage, the couple raised ten children. Gertrude was employed at Burgess Battery for a period of time. She enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, fishing with her husband, playing cards and singing.

Survivors include her four daughters: Shirley (John) Ewing; Roselan Trickel; Carol Hunter; Nancy (Robert, Sr.) Klinger; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; twenty-great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, three sons: Harry, Walter, and Dale; three daughters: Harriett, Myra, and Phyllis; two sons-in-law: Robert Allen Trickel and Dewey Hunter, II; five grandsons; two granddaughters; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 2:00 p. m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Lorraine VanNatta

Roger VanNatta

Roger E. VanNatta, age 80, of Stitzer, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on August 27, 1933, in Lancaster, the son of Earl and Irene (Jeidy) VanNatta. Roger graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. He served his country in Korea as a medic from December 11, 1956, until his honorable discharge on October 31, 1958. Roger was a self-employed dairy farmer in rural Lancaster until he retired in 1997 to rural Stitzer. On April 23, 1988, Roger was united in marriage to Lillian Freese. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved his beagles, woodworking, planting sweet corn, singing, bird watching, playing Euchre and visiting with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lillian; two sisters: Karen (Steven) Keune; Ruth Wepking; one brother, Bruce VanNatta; five step-children: Daniel Freese; Debra (Todd Werner) Jakel; Doris (Gary) Kruse; Donna (David) Miller; David (fianc Lisa) Freese; twelve grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Stan Wepking.

Memorial services with military honors were held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Sally VanNatta

Sally J. VanNatta, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on February 12, 1937, in Lancaster, the daughter of Victor and Anna (Wilson) VanNatta. Sally grew up on the family farm near Bloomington. She attended Milner School and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1955. She was a loyal follower of the Bloomington basketball team. Sally always enjoyed the outdoors going fishing and hunting and she loved to watch the birds that came to her feeders. She worked at different jobs throughout her life, including Hillcrest in Dubuque, IA, F&M Bank and Croft's Grocery Store in Lancaster, to name a few. Sally took over running the family farm after her father passed away and lived there until her death. She loved her Herford cattle always calling the calves her babies. Sally also enjoyed her phone conversations with her good friend Rosanne Horkheimer, which they did every night since high school. Sally had a very strong faith in God and is now at peace in Heaven with Him.

Sally is survived by her nephews and nieces: James (Pam) Moore; Robert (Cindy) Moore; Nancy Moore; Vicki (Jim) Jensen; Joseph Murray and Janet (Darin) Paku.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty J. (Gereld Moore) Schauff, Arlene Murray, a nephew, Don Moore and two brothers-in-law, Tim Murray and Lyle Schauff.

Florene J. Veech

Florene J. Jackson Beyer Veech, age 91, of Lancaster, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on July 14, 1920, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Thomas L. and ORena (Coleman) Jackson. Florene graduated from Louisville Girls High School in Louisville, KY. Florene then worked for Stewarts Dry Goods Department Store in Louisville. On July 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Gordon W. Beyer. She then graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business College with a degree in business. She was employed as the private secretary for Alexander Smith Carpet Company. Gordon was killed in Germany during World War II, on February 6, 1945. She later met William Lyman Veech, and they married on December 14, 1949, at the Beechmont Methodist Church in Louisville, KY. They farmed in Shelbyville and Eastwood, KY. In March of 1954, they purchased a farm in Little York, IN, and resided there for seventeen years. In 1969, Lyman and Florene purchasedtheir farm in Lancaster, WI. They later moved to town in 1987 when they retired. Her husband of 60 years, Lyman, preceded her in death in 2009.

During her life she was a member of the Order of Easter Star No. 512, where she served as Worthy Matron, and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. After moving to Lancaster, Florene was a member of the former Marian Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, devoted member of Farm Bureau, and has volunteered at Grant Regional Health Center since 1971. She was also very active in the Mary-Martha United Methodist Church Circle, serving as past president and taught Sunday School. She was a Rawleigh Company Salesperson for more than forty years and was very active in various activities. She especially enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and their activities.

She is survived by four children, Sandra Lee Beyer (James) Horner, Noblesville, IN, Susan Lynn Hughes, Arlington, TX, Wm Lyman VeechII, Wisconsin Dells, and Richard (Kim) Veech, Lancaster; eight grandchildren, James (Glenda) Horner II, Suzanne (Mark) Myers, Michael Sean Horner, Nancy Florene & Mary Patterson Hughes, Megan Marie, Brian Thomas & Trevor William Veech; six great grandchildren, Matthew David & Luke James Myers, Megan Elisabeth & Ryan James Horner, Hannah Clementine Cain, and Flora Holland Hughes; and a sister, Mary Lee Jackson (William) Tucker, Louisville, KY.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Church. There was an Order of the Eastern Star service, Mariam Chapter #15, just prior to the start of the funeral. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.

William L. Veech

William Lyman Veech, age 88, died Saturday, May 2nd, at the Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. He was born September 23, 1920 in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Son of Wm Henry and Cassandra Brown Veech. He had five siblings, Sarah Louise Schweitzer, Katherine Games, Robert Brown Veech, and Wallace Harmon Veech (deceased).

Lyman graduated from Finchville High School, Finchville, Kentucky in 1941 and continued his education by takingcorrespondence courses from LaSalle University in Chicago. Lyman farmed with his father until he went to the service in 1943. He was in the United States Air Force stationed in Boise, Idaho. On December 14, 1949, Lyman marred Florene J. Jackson at the Beechmont Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. They farmed in Shelbyville and Eastwood, Kentucky. In March of 1954, they purchased a farm in Little York, Indiana and resided there for sixteen years. In 1969 Lyman and Florene purchasedtheir farm in Lancaster, Wisconsin. They left the farm and moved to town in 1987 when he retired. He especially enjoyed spending his time outdoors, farming, playing cards & croquet with his childrenand grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florene, Lancaster: four children, Susan Lynn Hughes, Arlington, TX, Wm Lyman VeechII, WI Dells, Richard (Kim) Veech, Lancaster and Sandra Lee (James)Horner, Noblesville, IN; eight grandchildren, Nancy Florene & Mary Patterson Hughes, Megan Marie, Brian Thomas & Trevor William Veech, and James (Glenda) Horner II, Suzanne (Mark) Myers & Michael Sean Horner; five great grandchildren, Hannah Clementine Cain, Matthew David & Luke James Myers, Megan Elisabeth & Ryan James Horner.

Lyman is a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #512 and Past Worthy Patron of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter # 512 in Little York, Indiana. Lyman was also a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster with Reverend Barbara Cook officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday all at the church.

Don M. Verger

Don M. Verger, age 84, professor emeritus, University of Wisconsin Platteville, died on Friday, February 11, 2011, at his home in Platteville. He was born on October 17, 1926, in Rock Island , IL , the son of John and Blanche (Sousna) Verger. He was married to Wilma Spacek on June 11, 1959. Don was a member of the UW-Platteville Psychology Department for twenty-nine years and served as chairman for ten years. A 1952 graduate of the University of Illinois , he received his doctorate at the University of Oregon in 1965. In 1971, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina Medical School, Chapel Hill . He was a member of the Wisconsin Psychological Association and a past member of the American Psychological Association. A veteran of World War II, Don served over seas with the 97^th Calvary .

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Verger, Platteville; a daughter, Dr. Lynn (Scott Baumann) Verger, Platteville; and a grandson, Andrew Verger, Platteville.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Rosa Ziffrin.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville with Rabbi Jennifer Flatte officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery , Platteville. There was no visitation. L. Dale Vertein

L. Dale Vertein, age 94, of Pewaukee, formerly of Platteville, died on Friday, May 18, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. He was born on April 23, 1918 in the Township of Westfield in Sauk County to the late Harry A. and Addie (Schanke) Vertein. Dale graduated from Reedsburg High School and Platteville State Teachers College andearned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On June 3, 1944, he was united in marriage to LaMeda Schmidt in Wonewoc. After their marriage, he continued his teaching career at Oconomowoc High School, McFarland Public Schools and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He retired from UW-Platteville in 1982. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the National and Wisconsin Education Associations, the Masonic Lodge and the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his children: Sybil (Dan) Vertein-Hebgen, Wauwatosa; Doug (Elaine) Vertein, Pewaukee; nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, LaMeda; a sister, Virginia; an infant sister, Crystal; and two infant brothers; Chester and Dean.

LaMeda M. Vertein

LaMeda M. Vertein, age 90, of Pewaukee, formerly of Platteville, died on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. She was born on January 13, 1920, the daughter of Gus and Mayme (Wildenradt) Schmidt. LaMeda graduated from Wonewoc High School and the Milwaukee School of Cosmetology. On June 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Dale Vertein in Wonewoc. After their marriage, she continued to work as a beautician until she became a mother and full-time homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and an active volunteer in the community. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a good friend and will always be remembered for her smile and gift of conversation.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dale Vertein, Pewaukee; her children: Sybil (Dan) Vertein-Hebgen, Wauwatosa; Doug (Elaine) Vertein, Pewaukee; nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, LaMeda was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Adolph Vesperman, Jr.

Adolph Vesperman, Jr., age 84, of Lancaster died Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born on April 17, 1925, the son of Adolph and Mattie Vesperman. Adolph graduated from Lancaster High School in 1943. He served stateside in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946. Adolph was united in marriage toIrene M. Heberlein on November 10, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. In 1956, Irene and Adolph moved to Lancaster. He hauled bulk fuel for Bailey Oil Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Lodge #86 International Order of Oddfellows and also a member of Richard Burns American Legion Post #109. Adolph was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster where he served as a deacon, elder and custodian. He enjoyed a good game of cards and watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers.

Adolph is survived by his wife, Irene, Lancaster; three children: Mick (Diane) Vesperman, Lancaster, Randy (Mary) Vesperman, Mazomanie and Amy (Dennis) Davis, Blue River; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Florence Heberlein and Norma Vesperman, both of Lancaster; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Harold Bud and Ralph; four sisters, Marie Sandleback, Leona McFall, Kathryn Lind and Ruth Ripp.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Friends called from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Alta Vesperman

Alta M. Vesperman, age 99, of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. She was born on October 8, 1915, in Ellenboro Township, the daughter of Carl and Naomi (Atkinson) Senftlaben. Alta married Doris R. Vesperman on June 29, 1938. Together they operated the Texaco station in Platteville. Doris and Alta later moved to the Vesperman family farm in Ellenboro Township. She took pride in her large vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed sharing the produce with family and friends. Alta was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, where her parents, Carl and Naomi, served as Deacons to the parish. She dearly loved spending time with family and keeping up with their activities.

Survivors include one son, David (Linda) Vesperman; a daughter-in-law, Jewel (Don) Hedges; seven grandchildren: Jannan (Jerry) Steffes, John (fianc Jennifer Morey), Jeremy (Mindy Raetz), Joseph (Denise), Daniel (Sheri), Michael (Nikki), Brenda (Kyle Rafac) Vesperman; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a niece, Susan (Leslie) Pierce.

Alta was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doris, of sixty-three years, a son, James, a great-granddaughter, JoAnna Vesperman, and a sister, Ruth (Carson) Baker.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Dorothy M. Vesperman

Dorothy M. Starr Vesperman, age 91, of Lancaster, ended her life journey on Saturday, August 9^, 2013, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. She was born in Lancaster on May 22, 1922, to Louis and Martha (Laabs) Starr. Dorothy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1939 and joined the WAAC service on August 1943. During her 26 months she served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. She married Louie Vesperman on February 2, 1946, in the Presbyterian Church wearing their Military uniforms. After the discharge in 1945 she worked for the Veterans Services and then moved to Farm Bureau until the birth of Tim. After two years of being a mother, she returned to work at the Farmers Telephone Company where she retired after 23 years of service. She lost her golfing and dancing partner on April 9, 2002, after 56 years of marriage. Dot, as she was often called, loved dancing, golfing, knitting, painting, playing cards and coffee breaks with her friends. She was most certainly the best Mom possible. We already miss the special you!

She is survived by her son, Tim Vesperman, Chicago, IL.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Starr.

Jack Vesperman

Jack R. Vesperman, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. He was born on April 7, 1929, in South Lancaster Township, the son of Alvin and Ada (Hoehn) Vesperman. On January 14, 1950, Jack was united in marriage to Joan A. Austin in Indianapolis, IN. After their marriage, the couple farmed the Vesperman family farm in South Lancaster Township. Jack also drove school bus for thirty-six years, retiring in 2003. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. Jack also served as a Superintendent for the Grant County Fair. He loved spending time with his family and attending their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; their daughters: Jill (Chuck) Addison; Judy (Gary) Drinkwater; Jan (Ron) Stubbe; Jean (Randy) Wanezek; Jackie (Dan) Reuter; Jonna (Faron Yanna) Vesperman; Jane (Alex Gisoldi) Vesperman; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Norma B. Vesperman

Norma B. Vesperman, age 100, of Lancaster, died on Monday, September 13, 2010, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on January 12, 1910, in South Lancaster Township, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Richardson) Vesperman. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Norma completed her dietetic internship at the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. She was later employed as a dietitian for the Veterans Administration until her retirement on January 1, 1951. Norma was united in marriage to Harold Bud Vesperman on October 10, 1950, in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2002. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational Church.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Norma requested no visitation. A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster with Pastor Teri A. Hanson officiating. Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster assisted the family.

D. Kay Vincent

D. Kay Vincent, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born July 27, 1945 the daughter of Donald and Myrna (Croft) Vincent. Kay graduated from Lancaster High School. She furthered her education and graduated with a teaching degree from University of Wisconsin - Platteville. She taught music at the Mineral Point and Raymond School Districts. Kay returned to Lancaster and was employed at the tax lister office for Grant County. She attended the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Kay enjoyed playing the piano and organ at several Lancaster churches and travelling throughout the United States and Europe.

Surviving are her sisters, Kim (Dan) Roble and Ruth Currier; nieces and nephews, Chris (Angie) Roble, Matt Roble, Missy (Tim) Piper, Deb (Jim) Pfeiler, and Pam Scull; great-nieces and nephews: Allison Roble, Jayson and Jordan Brooks, John and Cord Pfeiler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Vincent, Myrna Vincent Johnson, step father George Johnson, a sister LaVon Scull and a brother-in-law Tom Currier.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jean Schmidt officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Kay to the Lancaster United Methodist Church music department.

Bernice M. Vogt

Bernice M. Vogt, age 82, of Cassville, died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. Bernice was born on May 14, 1929 in Cassville, the daughter of Nick and Rose (Brinkman) Esser. She graduated from Cassville High School. On November 20, 1947, Bernice was united in marriage to Paul J. Vogt at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Glen Haven area. Bernice enjoyed gardening and working on the farm. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven. In 1989, they moved to Cassville. Bernice was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. She enjoyed cleaning, cooking, baking and was known for her pineapple fluff. Bernice also enjoyed walking. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include seven sons: Ronald (Sheila) Vogt, Verona; Dale Vogt, Eau Claire; Mo (Laurie) Vogt, Bagley; Roger (Jeanie) Vogt, Rodney (Mary) Vogt, Randy Vogt and Brian (Dawn) Vogt, all of Glen Haven; twenty grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Florence Ley, Charles Esser, Delores (Larry) Houghton, Gerry (Ambrose) Mumm, Donald (Barb) Esser, and Darlene (Mike) Schauff, all of Cassville.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Charlene, a son, Thomas, two grandsons, Timothy and David and a great-granddaughter, Chloe Marie Vogt.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven. Family and friends called on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Lucille M. Vogt

Lucille M. Vogt, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, IA. She was born October 10, 1922, daughter of Julius and Augusta (Ertz) Vorwald. She graduated from Bloomington High School. Lucille and her husband Eugene Vogt farmed outside of Bloomington for 40 years. They retired to the village of Bloomington in 1979.

She married Eugene Vogt on November 10, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington. She belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Senior Citizens, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She also played cards with a group of ladies every week since 1979. Her favorite hobby was quilting and she made several quilts with ladies in their homes for her family. Lucille also got a 1st on one of her quilts at a show on her 80th birthday! She did a lot of traveling with her husband and friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Vogt in 1994, her parents, two brothers, Edwin and Raymond Vorwald, her stepmother, Lena Vorwald, two sons, an infant son in 1943 and Kenneth Vogt, 1980.

Survivors include her four children, Sharon (Bill) Stoeffler, Gary Vogt, Elaine (Doug) Olson & Debra (Lynn) Myers; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends called on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington is serving the family.

Lulu Mae Vogt

Lulu Mae Vogt, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Lancaster Care Center. Lu was born on June 4, 1927, in Bloomington, oldest child of Edward and Frances (Crubel) Weber. She met Edwin Vogt at a local dance and the date continued with sharing Lus homemade angel food cake. On June 25, 1946, they were married at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. Together they farmed in the Glen Haven and Beetown Townships until their retirement to Lancaster. Ed preceded her in death on February 28, 1997.

Lu was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, and St. Clement quilters group. Lu spent many hours sewing quilt tops for the quilters. She loved playing cards, gardening, sewing, and baking chocolate chip cookies for family and friends. Lu had the knack for making Angel Food cake from scratch, which was enjoyed at family gatherings. Lu enjoyed spending time with her six children, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children: Sister Delores Vogt, Tucson, AZ; Rosann (Dennis) Bausch, Potosi; Leonard (Donna) Vogt, Fortville, IN; Charlie Vogt, Dean (Pat) Vogt, of Lancaster; Norma (Daniel) Sczygelski, Wausau; grandchildren: Pamela (Dave) Bausch Lokken, Verona; Gary (Dawn) Bausch, Aurora, IL; Lorie (Tim) Bausch Lange, Sun Prairie; Aaron (Zacha) Vogt, Chesterfield, VA; Jeff Vogt, Pittsburgh, PA; Craig Vogt, Austin, TX; Justin Vogt, Lancaster; Brandon (Caitlin) Vogt, Manassas, VA; Andrea Vogt, Marysville, WA; Erik (Michelle) Sczygelski, St. Paul, MN; Rene Sczygelski, Fitchburg; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters: Germaine Mumm, Lancaster; Margaret Breuer, Prairie du Chien; Mary Ann Harter, Oregon, WI; a brother, Gerry (Val) Weber, Milltown; brothers-in-law: James Ley, Lancaster; James Blum, Glen Haven; sister-in-law, Mary Weber, Marion, IA; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Lu was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil (Connie) Weber and Edward Weber, Jr.; three sisters: Kathryn Ley, Frannie Blum, and Bernice Weber (infant); brothersin-law and sisters-in-law: Stanley Chub and Mary Adrian, Paul and Bernice Vogt, Carrol and Vera Vogt, Eugene and Lucille Vogt, Vince Mumm, Burnell Breuer, and Robert Harter.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery. Family and friends called on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Lulu Mae Vogt Memorial Fund has been established. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the Lancaster Care Center for the care given to mom and a special thanks to her sister, Germaine Mumm, for being moms driver over the years.

Debra L. Vondra

Debra L. Debbie Vondra, age 56 of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2010, at UW Hospitals in Madison, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on May 20, 1954, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Bill and Margaret (Dobson) Snider. In 1972, Debbie graduated from Lancaster High School. On August 10, 1974, she was united in marriage to Lester Vondra at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Debbie was employed with LV Laboratories, LLC for ten years. She loved dancing, traveling, reading, playing cards and going out to dinner. Debbie was always happy and a good friend to all. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Lester Vondra, Lancaster; two children: Ryan Vondra, Lancaster; Lecia (Tom) Lenz, Livingston; two grandchildren: Grace and Aiden Lenz, Livingston; her parents: Bill and Margaret Snider, Lancaster; her sisters and brother: Lori (Roger) Stier, Sun Prairie; Sue (friend Steve) Ellis, Lancaster; John (Dawn) Snider, Lancaster; her mother and father-in-law: Don and Norma Vondra, Lancaster; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Barb (Bill) Ballard, MN; Donna Vondra, Stoughton; Daryl Vondra, Davenport, IA; Diane Annie (Sal) Toro, Piedmont, SC; Kathy (Donnie) Smith, Duncan, SC; Lonnie (Nancy) Vondra, Monks Corner, SC; Pat (Bev) Vondra, Schwartz Creek, MI; Bernie (Kathy) Vondra, Sedona, AZ; Jeanne (Dale) Byers, Easley, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Vanda Vorwald

Vanda F. Vorwald, age 82, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at her daughter's home in Lancaster. She was born on May 31, 1933, in Stitzer, the daughter of Elmer and Margaret (Liest) Becker. Vanda graduated salutatorian from Fennimore High School. She furthered her education at Madison Business College where she earned a degree in accounting. On May 31, 1955, she was united in marriage to William Vorwald. Vanda was employed as a bookkeeper at Grant Community Clinic, Orchard Manor Nursing Home, and Richgels-Schaefer Insurance. In January of 1978, she became the City Clerk Treasurer for the City of Lancaster and was employed there until her retirement on June 2, 1995. Vanda enjoyed golfing, softball, gambling, puzzles, crossword puzzles, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She volunteered her time as an EMT, with the local Meals on Wheels program, and she and Jan Hanson chaired the cancer support group in the area. Vanda was an avid Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and University of Wisconsin Badger fan.

Survivors include her seven children: Gregory (Camille Kirschbaum) Vorwald, Mt. Ida; Debra (Robert) Fitzgerald, Lemont, IL; Kate (Michael) Wetter, Dodgeville; Diane (Roger) Heberlein, Lancaster; Jeanne (Patrick) Marshall, Viola; Nancy (Ladd) Nelson, Bellevue, IA; Susan (Jeff Simonson) Murray, Friendship; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Judith (Barry) Chisnell, Itasca, IL; sister-in-law, Jane Becker, Augusta; brother-in-law, Toni Hatch, Portage; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Vanda was preceded in death by her siblings: Beverly (Howard) Lind; Norman Becker; and Anita Hatch.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in Lancaster. Private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Lancaster Rescue Squad, PO Box 293, Lancaster, WI 53813 and/or Grant County Hospice, 111 S. Jefferson St., Lancaster, WI 53813. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is assisting the family.

Virgil Vorwald

Virgil G. Vorwald, age 87 passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Lancaster Care Center. He was born March 24, 1927, the son of Frederick and Lillian (Ertz) Vorwald. Virgil attended Dodge country school and St. Marys school. He married Lois M. Kirschbaum on May 31, 1952, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. Together they farmed on the Vorwald family farm on Dodge Road. Virgil coached FFA softball and liked to bowl. He enjoyed golfing with his family and friends and was a member of the Lancaster Country Club and Knights of Columbus in Bloomington. Virgil and Lois retired from the farm in 1990 and moved to Lancaster. In retirement Virgil continued to golf and also drove cars for the Les Mack dealership.

One reason he liked to golf so much is that Its a game that values honesty, following the rules, mental toughness, staying positive, never giving up, looking forward instead of backward, and above all else, having fun while you do it. His eyes would light up during visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

Surviving is his loving wife Lois, their children: Ronald (Kris), Mary Vorwald Nordahl, and Virginia Vorwald, eight grandchildren: Andy (Catie), Katie (Tom), Michael and Jon Vorwald, Ellen and Kristen Nordahl, Bruin and Dayne Armwald, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Helen Muench, two sisters-in-law, Barbara Vorwald and Florence (Gerald) Schildgen and a brother-in-law, Raymond (Joanne) Kirschbaum, and many nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by three brothers; Harry Bud (Norma), Larry (Joanne), and Robert, and a brother in law Leo Muench.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery. Friends and family called on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster, where a 4:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary was prayed. Friends also called on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Virgil G. Vorwald memorial fund has been established with donations being given to St. Marys Catholic School in Bloomington and Badger Camp.
